The TSPlayer displays videotext „on screen“ in the Video Window, if videotext data has been included in a transport stream (TS) file. The main purpose is playing (timeshifted) movies with subtitles - without would be pretty useless for hearing-impaired people. This chapter describes how to do it.
Videotext Settings | Subtitles
Videotext
is switched on/off by clicking the button
on the Player Tab. The Videotext Tab provides the following settings:
Language: In most cases „Auto“ will let the
TSPlayer detect the videotext language and select a suitable
character set. However, some languages like Greek or Hebrew require
a manual selection in order to get a correct result.
Use Bold Font: Tick this checkbox, if you want the videotext
to be displayed with bold letters.
Transparency: Click one of the radio buttons to select the
transparency mode:
Opaque: Video is covered by the videotext
Semi-Transparent: Video shines through.
Transparent: The videotext letters are displayed without their background.
Please note: Transparency is only
available in the hardware-supported Overlay Mode, which requires
selecting „Overlay“ or „VMR 7“ as video
renderer. The TSPlayer can not use Overlay Mode, if another
program, that has been launched before, already occupies it (e.g. the
DVBViewer). Normal output mode transparency has not yet been
implemented in the TSPlayer (a bit more difficult).
The lower part of the Videtext Tab enumerates the keys that can be used to select a specific videotext (sub-)page.

The TSPlayer detects automatically, whether a videotext page contains subtitles or not, and displays them „boxed“ within the video, mostly in its lower part.
Displaying subtitles requires Overlay
Mode, thus being subject to the same restrictions as described above
for transparency.
If you want to watch a „timeshifted“ movie with subtitles, usually Overlay Mode will already be occupied by the DVBViewer. This problem can be solved by proceeding as follows:
Select the channel in the DVBViewer.
Go to the DVBViewer options and select „VMR 7“ or „VMR
9“ as video output. In these modes the DVBViewer does not use
overlay.
Open the Videorecorder Plugin window, select „Transport
Stream“ as output format. Make sure that the channel is ticked
on the Channels Tab, and
additionally videotext as program element.
Start recording, wait for some seconds, and then click the Timeshift
Button to launch the TSPlayer.
Make sure that „Overlay“ or „VMR 7“ is
selected as video renderer
in the TSPlayer.
Click
on the Player Tab, type the number of the subtitle page, or press
the Ctrl [+] or Ctrl [-] key for letting the TSPlayer find it.
